My name is Audrey Simpson, and I am a marketing major and a student athlete at Howard Payne University. Howard Payne University is in Brownwood, Texas, and there are not many opportunities there for marketing internships. Being a student-athlete also means that during the school year, it is difficult for me to have a job. My resume doesn’t have the work experience that other marketing students have. When I received the phone call from Kim that I would be interning with her, I was beyond grateful. I didn’t really know what to expect, and the only marketing that I have done before this summer was school projects.
For any of you who are looking at this blog trying to decide if you want to apply for this internship, just look at the following topics I learned and examples of work we did. If you are wanting to learn, this is the best place for you to be.
Social Media Management
Before this internship, I thought that social media management was simply posting on social media sites. After this internship, I now know this is far from true. When managing a social media account, you have to be prepared for a whole month’s worth of content before you do anything. The pictures on a business’s social media site must come from somewhere. Unlike a personal social media account, a business needs to be posting on their page almost every day. That is a combination of 30 pictures or videos every single month. Content is everything in social media, and this is work that is often overlooked by businesses.
Below are the other topics I learned and examples of work that I created or helped create.
