Build Buzz and Turn Opening Day Into an Event
The goal was simple: get San Antonio talking, introduce the new storefront to a wider audience, and turn opening day into a moment people wanted to be part of.

Dough Baby’s San Antonio Cafe Grand Opening Case Study
Dough Baby had already won over San Antonio farmers market regulars with its cinnamon rolls and kolaches. When it was time to trade the market setup for a permanent home in Olmos Park, the owners needed more than a “we’re open” post. They needed a launch that would get people talking and give guests a reason to show up.
While the Dough Baby team was deep in the weeds of opening a new cafe, Embark Marketing took the launch marketing off their plate. We handled the content, press, influencer partnership, and grand opening celebration so their team could focus on the food, the staff, and the guests.
The goal was simple: get San Antonio talking, introduce the new storefront to a wider audience, and turn opening day into a moment people wanted to be part of.
No one-and-done announcement here. We built the launch around four connected pieces that carried the story from the first teaser through opening day.

We created the promotional content and grand opening materials Dough Baby needed. One clear story, served consistently across social media, press outreach, influencer content, and the event itself.
We found the angle local media could sink their teeth into: a farmers market favorite opening its first brick-and-mortar bakery. Then we wrote the press release and pitched the story to San Antonio food, lifestyle, business, and news outlets.
Right story, right audience. We coordinated an exclusive partnership with S.A. Foodie to give local food lovers an early look at the bakery and a personal introduction to the new location before opening day.
On opening day, we handled the moving parts: the ribbon cutting, giveaways, guest experience, raffle, and photo and video coverage. The first 50 guests received a free cinnamon roll, while guests throughout the event received a complimentary kolache coupon.
Then came the buzz. The campaign introduced Dough Baby to San Antonio audiences well beyond its farmers market following.

The campaign landed 10 pieces of online coverage with an estimated 63,714 views. Dough Baby showed up in KENS 5’s Great Day SA, the San Antonio Report, the San Antonio Express-News, CultureMap San Antonio, Axios San Antonio, What Now San Antonio, and other local outlets. The S.A. Foodie partnership gave local customers one more trusted way to discover the bakery.
We like our results served straight. Dough Baby did not share grand opening sales data, so we cannot tie the campaign to a specific sales total or return on investment. What we can show is strong local visibility, credible media coverage, influencer exposure, and a fully coordinated opening-day experience.
No single tactic carried the whole launch. The content set the table, local media brought new eyes to the brand, S.A. Foodie added trusted word of mouth, and the event gave people a reason to walk through the door. Together, those pieces turned one opening day into a bigger San Antonio story.
We get it. You’re hiring, training, ordering, troubleshooting, and somehow still expected to market the opening. Embark Marketing was built by the service industry, for the service industry. Let us handle the strategy, content, public relations, influencer partnerships, and event details so you can focus on your team, your guests, and getting the doors open.
