My Great “Embark” to find a Marketing Internship!

Finding a Marketing Internship

It all began with a Handshake post about a marketing company looking for an intern. Then, a 20 year-old Communication major with zero experience and major anxiety about what she was going to do with her life applied. My name is Valeria Rodriguez and this is how my Embark Marketing internship prepared me for basically everything.

I was stressed and had no idea what I wanted to do in life, but I knew I had a passion for digital design, social media, and photography. I also knew Embark’s internship would give me the opportunity to expand and hone these skills. As soon as I saw the posting I decided to do some research. I read over the blogs from previous interns and knew I wanted this internship, so I applied. A couple of weeks later, and I was interviewing with Kim. After we talked about the requirements and expectations for the internship I felt like I was finally moving in the right direction in my career path. I’d done it, I finally had an internship. I didn’t know what to expect, but I was excited for what was to come.

Just Keep Learnin’

My first day at Embark was the most informational day of my entire existence. I learned about social media algorithms, search engine optimization (SEO), and the in’s and out’s of the food & beverage marketing industry. Before I didn’t understand the difference between organic engagement and automated bots, but now I do. Thanks to Kim I can no longer ignore celebrities or influencers posts with thousands of “likes” and 10 comments without screaming “BOTS!”

Behind the Scenes

In addition to all the learning, I met some amazing people and animals. McKenna Parr and Camille Richards you guys are the funniest and most amazing people I have ever had the pleasure of working with! Just laughing and meeting you both made this experience worth it.

Kim, thank you so much for this opportunity. I created brochure, websites, and videos. You taught me how to write press releases, blogs, and Hootsuite scheduling. I’ve learned the importance of deadlines, constantly saving files, and you let me in behind the scenes. This has been an amazing opportunity and a great stepping stone for me. This internship sparked my drive and led to me creating things I would never have done on my own. Thank you for EVERYTHING!
