Ease of Use

 Squarespace, Weebly, Wix are very simple to use in the sense that you just drag and drop an image, text box or you can select a pre-made layout for your site. This aspect can be very appealing if you have no knowledge on website coding or the development itself. The negative is that you are unable to customize your site to match your brand. With WordPress you can customize your site to match the design of your business, and it is easier than you may think. If coding is not your strong suit then there are plenty of companies, like Embark Marketing, who can help you set up your WordPress site and even teach you the tools to maintain it.

Ownership

Now when building your website you would think that you own all your information, pictures, and videos that you upload. Right? But with platforms like Weebly and Squarespace you actually do not own that information. You are uploading your content onto their server and essentially “renting” space from that company. When using a WordPress site you are not “renting” you own your URL and the content you upload to it. What this means is if ever these platforms (Weebly, Wix, Squarespace, etc.) ever go out of business or disappear so does your site. Though it is unlikely for this to happen, what if it did?

E-Commerce

If your website offers a place to purchase your inventory or gift cards, etc. then you should strongly consider WordPress. On top of the charges you pay for sites like PayPal, allowing your customers to send their payments to your business account, sites like Weebly require an additional 3% charge per transaction. WordPress offers multiple “widgets” or tools you can include on your site that allows for you to create your own online store.

Search Engine Optimization

What is Search Engine Optimization, or SEO as we like to call it? SEO is the act of ensuring your website is searchable on search engine sites. On Weebly, Sqaurespace and WordPress you can enter these SEO terms, or keywords, and hope that they work. But when Google or Yahoo! is searching for those keywords they need to make sure the site is valid. Makes sense, right? With Weebly or Squarespace and platforms like these the search engine first has to verify their server and then your site. WordPress can validate your site because it acts as its own server. Also, with the other platforms you have no idea if those keywords are actually working. WordPress helps you modify your posts and content to boost SEO and readability for your site.
